Search For The Needle: How to Find the Needle Fast on a Fresh Account

The exact tool buy order, upgrade priority, and reset rules that turn a first Farmhouse run into a short one.

The exact tool buy order, upgrade priority, and reset rules that turn a first Farmhouse run into a short one.

A fresh run of Search For The Needle hands you nothing but a pair of hands, a 25-hay bag, and a pile that dwarfs your avatar. The needle is a single object buried under that pile, not scattered across the map, so the entire game is a throughput problem. Every minute you spend clicking hay at default speed is a minute the shop could have deleted for you.

Quick answer: Sell your first bag, take Speed, then Grasp, buy the Pitchfork at $8 as soon as you can afford it, add Dynamite at $25, and dig straight down through the center of the stack — the needle rests on the ground underneath, and the on-screen prompt YOU FOUND THE NEEDLE! Equip it and take it to the farmer confirms the find.

What resets between rounds and what carries over

This is the rule that decides how you spend everything else. Cash is round-local. Gems are permanent. Nothing you buy with Cash survives the moment the round ends unless you own the matching permanent pass, which is why four of the seven Robux passes have the word “permanent” in their names.

CurrencySourceSurvives the round?
CashFeeding hay to the cow at the barn windowNo — tools and their upgrades reset
GemsDiamonds inside the pile, clearing the map, daily bonuses, codesYes — banked in the lobby

Practical consequence: never hoard Cash. Anything still in your wallet when the run ends is wasted. Gems, on the other hand, should be treated as the actual save file, since they pay for Class spins and permanent lobby stat levels like Bag Size, Hand Grab Amount, Hay Value, and Gem Value.

The opening loop: 25 hay, one sale, one upgrade

Pick Farmhouse, make a solo party, and let the countdown run. A 20-player server works, but other people crowd the best click angles on the pile and none of it changes the single-needle math.
Fill the starting bag. It holds 25 hay, the objective tracker counts it for you, and there is no reason to keep clicking once it caps — extra clicks do nothing while you are full.
Walk the bag to the cow at the barn window and sell. Hay pays roughly $0.01 each, so a full opening bag is about $0.25.

Open the upgrade book and buy the first Speed level, listed around $0.23. Speed cuts the walk between pile and cow, which is where a beginner loses the most time. Grasp comes next, since it raises how much hay each grab pulls.

Tool buy order for a faster clear

There are five tools total. The Hand is free and permanent; the other four sit in the barn shop and the drone pedestal. Buying them out of order is the most common way a run stretches past an hour.

OrderToolWhy it goes here
1Bag capacityFewer trips to the cow; everything else scales off it
2Pitchfork ($8)Big sweeps of hay with no overheat cooldown
3Dynamite ($25)Removes a chunk of the pile in one throw
4Hay Drone (40 Gems)Collects and delivers hay to the cow while you dig
5VacuumFastest sustained removal once Cooling and Runtime are up

The Vacuum is strong but punishing at level one — it overheats quickly and forces a pause. The Pitchfork has no such gate, so it carries the mid-run stretch while you bank enough Cash to make the Vacuum worth carrying. Once both are upgraded, alternating vacuum passes with dynamite throws strips layers far faster than either alone.

Upgrade priority inside each tool

Each tool has its own stat list in the upgrade book, and the useful ones are the stats that remove a wait rather than the ones that add a number. Cooldowns and overheat timers are the real ceiling on your clear speed.

ToolStatsTake first
HandSpeed, Grasp / Grab AmountSpeed, then Grasp
PitchforkSweep, CooldownCooldown
VacuumPower, Cooling, RuntimeCooling, then Power
DynamitePower, Speed, Lucky BlastSpeed, then Power

Tip: Lucky Blast on the Dynamite is a late purchase, not an early one. It only pays off once you are already throwing charges on a short cooldown into a pile deep enough to hide diamonds.

Where the needle sits and how to confirm the find

The needle rests on the ground beneath the stack, near the base and typically toward the center. Tidying the top of the pile does nothing for you. Aim every dynamite throw and every vacuum pass at the same column of hay and drive it downward until the floor is exposed.

When enough hay above it is gone, the silver needle becomes visible and the prompt YOU FOUND THE NEEDLE! Equip it and take it to the farmer appears. Equip it, then walk to the farmer NPC outside the barn. He talks about spending 31 years on the search, leads you to a locked cellar hatch, and drops you through it. Roblox also lists Found the Needle! as an enabled badge, so a badge notification is a second confirmation that the run counted.

For scale, roughly 28 in every 100 players who have ever joined a run have actually reached this point. Most of the failures are not bad luck — they are people clicking hay by hand with no bag upgrade.

What the permanent Robux passes change

Seven passes exist, totalling 943 Robux, and none of them are required to reach the needle. What they buy is the removal of the reset rule. With Permanent Infinite Bag, you stop running to the cow to make room. With Permanent Vacuum, Pitchfork, Dynamite, or Drone, the tool and every level you put on it is waiting for you at the start of the next round instead of costing Cash all over again.

PassEffect
Permanent Infinite Bag (99 Robux)No carry cap, no forced sell trips
Permanent Drone (129 Robux)Drone helper from the start of every run
Permanent Dynamite (149 Robux)Keeps Dynamite and its upgrades between rounds
Permanent Vacuum (249 Robux)Keeps the Vacuum and its upgrades between rounds
2x GemsDoubles Gem income, the only pass that compounds
Fast Rolls (179 Robux)Speeds up Class spins in the lobby

If you buy only one, 2x Gems is the one that keeps paying, because Gems are the currency that never gets wiped.

Spending Gems: classes and the ALIEN code

Classes are rolled at the Classes booth in the lobby for 40 Gems per spin, and the odds are steep. Starter is the common result at 40 percent, while Ultimate Farmer — which stacks every other class bonus and adds a periodic Golden Harvest — sits at 0.1 percent.

ClassRoll chanceBonus
Starter40%None
Pack Mule25%+50% carry capacity
Hay Merchant14%+20% money from selling hay
Forkmaster9%+25% hay per swing, −25% Pitchfork upgrade cost
Demolitionist7%+20% blast radius, 10% chance of 3 mini-charges
Prospector3.9%Diamonds 50% more common; hay can turn into Diamonds
Drone Specialist1%Always own a Drone; faster, larger, chance of a 3-drone swarm
Ultimate Farmer0.1%Every other bonus at once, plus Golden Harvest

Before your first spin, top up. Entering ALIEN in the Codes menu returns 200 Gems and 280 Alien Coins, and liking the experience plus joining the Garage Games group grants a one-time 25 Gems. That is five spins’ worth of Gems for a few seconds of typing — worth doing on a fresh account before you touch a Robux purchase.

The Alien Event those Coins belong to runs through September 15, 2026. The trapdoor the farmer shoves you through leads to the Basement, Chapter 2’s permanent map, where the loop swaps hay for levers, a crystal-counting puzzle, a 16-piece picture puzzle, and a four-digit keypad. It has its own place and its own completion badge, and it does not require a Chapter 1 clear to enter — though going in with a maxed Farmhouse run behind you makes far more sense than learning both at once. A further update is scheduled for September 12, 2026.
