Leather is a crafted material in Enshrouded. You make it at the Tanning Station once you have the right ingredients prepared, and it feeds into a long list of gear, from armor and shields to backpacks and gliders.
Quick answer: Load 10 Dried Fur, 20 Salt and 2 Ammonia Gland into the Tanning Station to craft 10 Leather.
Unlock the Tanning Station first
You cannot tan anything without the station itself. Your first one comes from a Hunter quest called “In Need Of A Tanning Station”, which sends you out to recover the station and bring it home.
The Hunter can also craft extra Tanning Stations from 10 Wood Planks, 4 Nails, 10 Lump of Clay and 10 Tar.

Dried Fur is itself a crafted item, so start on it early.
Dried Fur from the Drying Rack
Build a Drying Rack at the Hunter using 10 Wood Logs and 6 String. Then dry Animal Fur on it. Each batch takes 1 Animal Fur plus 3 Salt to make 1 Dried Fur, so plan your Salt supply around both the drying step and the tanning step.

Salt
The Egerton Salt Mines in the Springlands is a good place to stock up.

Ammonia Gland
Ammonia Glands drop from Fell Fungal Friends found in the Nomad Highlands Shroud.

Craft Leather at the Tanning Station

Load the Tanning Station with 10 Dried Fur, 20 Salt and 2 Ammonia Gland; it makes 10 Leather. Leather itself reads as “A versatile and durable material that is smooth to the touch. It also has the advantage of being waterproof.” You can also find it inside locked chests out in the world.
What Leather is used for
These craftables call for Leather directly.

| Warm Padding | Hunter | 1 |
| Pocket Heater | Hunter | 1 |

Shields and armor
The Blacksmith uses Leather on shields: 3 for the Stormshield, 3 for the Mercenary Shield and 4 for the Guardian Shield. Several armor lines also require it, with Mercenary, Herbalist, Magician, Omen, Hunter and Plaguebringer pieces each taking 1 to 3 Leather.
