Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Paper at the Laboratory

Paper is a crafted material in Enshrouded 1.0, made at the Laboratory from an Ammonia Gland and a single log. You will mostly want it for the Almanac of Plants and Seedlings, which opens up the Kitchen’s farm dishes, but it also feeds several decoration and furniture recipes.

Quick answer: At the Laboratory, combine 1 Ammonia Gland + 1 log to produce 5 Paper in 5 minutes. Collect the finished stack from the station’s output.

What you need to make Paper

Paper comes from the Laboratory, the Alchemist’s production station. Before you can craft anything there, you need the station itself, a supply of Ammonia Glands, and logs.

Build the Laboratory

The Laboratory recipe sits at the Alchemist once you complete “Scientific Instruments For A Laboratory”. Crafting it costs 1 Scientific Instruments, 1 Athanor, 40 Fired Bricks, 10 Copper Bars and 3 Glass. Place the finished station in your base.

Get Ammonia Glands

The large, red-capped mushroom enemy called the Fell Fungal Friend drops Ammonia Glands in the Shroud of the Nomad Highlands. Each kill yields 4 to 6 glands.

Bring logs

Any of the accepted logs works, and plain Wood Logs from any tree are the easiest to stock up on. One log is spent per batch alongside one gland.

Craft Paper at the Laboratory

Open the Laboratory and select Paper from its recipe list.

Load one batch, which is 1 Ammonia Gland plus 1 log. Each batch produces 5 Paper and takes 5 minutes.

Take the finished Paper from the station’s output. The item reads: “A traditional but mighty tool of communication. Used for the preservation of knowledge.”

The Almanac of Plants and Seedlings needs 25 Paper, which is 5 batches, so set aside 5 Ammonia Glands and 5 logs for it.

Paper is not Paper Reed

Paper Reed is another item entirely: it is a plant that the Honey Beehive converts into Wax. It is not used to make Paper, so keep the two separate when collecting materials.

What Paper is used for

The Almanac of Plants and Seedlings at the Farmer takes 25 Paper and 5 String. Its item text reads: “Explains how to grow all sorts of seedlings.” The Kitchen needs it nearby for farm dishes such as Fruit Bowl, Thyme Tea, Candied Ginger and Strawberry Milkshake.

Beyond that, Paper feeds a handful of furniture and decoration recipes across different crafters.

Crypt Bookrest (Collector) takes 10 Paper, 1 Leather, 2 Indigo Plant and 5 Shroud Wood.
Secret Crude Wooden Bookshelf Door and Carved Secret Bookshelf Door (Carpenter) each take 50 Paper, 5 Metal Sheets, 10 String, 15 Leather and a matching wooden cabinet.
At the Decoration Workbench, each book decoration—Book I to V and Collection Of Books I to III—requires 5 Old Books or Paper.
