Abilities are the one special move you carry into a Cat Battles match on Roblox. Basic attacks like Punch, Grab, Kick, and Lift wear opponents down. An ability is what lets you slip out of a grab at the ring’s edge, plant yourself against a shove, or knock a cluster of cats off balance. You can only bring one at a time, and each costs either Coins or a premium bundle.
Quick answer: Open your Inventory, select the Abilities tab, buy an ability with Coins, then place it in your equipment slot. Press Q on PC to use it in a match. Dash is free.

Cat Battles ability list by rarity
Abilities are sorted into five rarities: Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Mythic. When you trigger an ability it stays active for a short window. After that window ends, the cooldown starts. These two numbers matter more than rarity. A long active window with a short cooldown means you can rely on the move more often during a round.
Every ability sold for Coins costs 29,500 Coins in total. That figure leaves out Dash, which is free, and the two Mythics, which come only from premium bundles.
Common abilities: Dash, Hiss, and Pounce
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active duration | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dash | Free | 0.3 seconds | 6 seconds |
| Hiss | 750 Coins | 0.1 seconds | 14 seconds |
| Pounce | 750 Coins | 1 second | 14 seconds |
Dash is the ability every player starts with equipped. It’s a quick dodge with invincibility frames, so a grab or hit that lands during the dash does nothing. It has the shortest cooldown of any ability, which is why many players never replace it. It works for closing distance and for escaping when you’re cornered near the edge.
Hiss only works when you’ve been grabbed. Use it and the player holding you lets go. That makes it a direct counter to the grab-and-carry-to-the-edge approach most aggressive players rely on.
Pounce launches you at the nearest player. It’s an opener. It works best on a cat that’s already exposed or recovering from another hit. Using it carelessly can carry you toward the boundary.

Rare abilities: Anchor, Nine Lives, and Stomp
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active duration | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anchor | 2,000 Coins | 3 seconds | 15 seconds |
| Nine Lives | 2,000 Coins | 1.5 seconds | 25 seconds |
| Stomp | 2,000 Coins | 0.6 seconds | 16 seconds |
Anchor digs your claws into the floor so Push, Slap, and Toss move you less. It suits players who hold position near the edge, and it’s especially useful in 4 Teams, where you’re often attacked from several sides at once. Anchor doesn’t stop you from being knocked around. It only resists displacement, so experienced opponents will bait it out and then wait for it to expire.
Nine Lives lets you revive one time per match. Since getting knocked out of the ring is the only way to lose, a second chance is a big deal. Keep in mind the revive won’t repeat no matter how often the cooldown comes back.
Stomp shakes the floor around you. It does the most damage when several cats are bunched together near the edge, which happens all the time in crowded rounds.

Epic abilities: Catnip and Fluff Up
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active duration | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catnip | 5,000 Coins | 3 seconds | 16 seconds |
| Fluff Up | 5,000 Coins | 4 seconds | 16 seconds |
Catnip refills your stamina so you can keep moving fast. It helps when you want to keep attacking without backing off. The downside is that it’s easy to push too far, and opponents can simply retreat until the boost runs out.
Fluff Up puffs up your cat so your hits knock other players farther away. It has the longest active window of any ability, which gives you a few seconds to turn one good hit into a ring-out.
Legendary ability: Hairball
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active duration | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hairball | 12,000 Coins | 0.1 seconds | 20 seconds |
Hairball drops a hairball on the floor, and any cat that steps on it slips. It’s the most expensive ability you can buy with Coins. It’s a ranged tool that makes opponents move, and a well-placed hairball near the edge can slide a rival straight off the map.
Mythic abilities: Shark Attack and Wind Shurikens
| Ability | Unlock cost | Active duration | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shark Attack | Premium bundle | 1.1 seconds | 20 seconds |
| Wind Shurikens | Premium bundle | 1.1 seconds | 25 seconds |
Shark Attack calls in a shark to charge into anything ahead of it. Wind Shurikens sends out two fans of wind shurikens, giving you a ranged attack. Coins can’t be used to get either ability; both are exclusive to premium bundles bought with Robux. Robux bundles also offer a Ray Gun Mythic.

To check that it worked, look at the Abilities tab. The ability should now appear with your unlocked abilities. Then start a match and press Q on PC. The new ability’s effect should fire instead of your old one.
Gold, Crystal, Rainbow, Galaxy, and Glitch Furs affect appearance only. They don’t alter any ability’s behavior, and even the rarest fur won’t make your Stomp hit harder.

Earning Coins to buy abilities
Coins are the only currency for the non-Mythic abilities. They come from a few places:
- Knocking another cat out of the ring, which pays bonus Coins for every knockout
- Surviving rounds
- Collect daily rewards at the streak board in the lobby
- Enter active codes like
RELEASE,NEWGAME, andCATSthrough the in-game codes window
Playing aggressively earns Coins faster than hiding, because the bonus is tied to knockouts and not just to lasting until the end.
Cat Battles ability timing and cooldowns in a match
Once the active window ends, the ability is gone for the whole cooldown. During that time you’re relying on basic actions alone. That’s why timing matters more than which ability you picked. If you burn Anchor in the first few seconds of a round, you’ll have nothing left when someone grabs you and carries you to the ropes.
The same rule works on your opponents. A cat that has just used its ability is the easiest one to eliminate, especially near the edge. Pay attention to who has already pressed Q. Against an Anchor user, bait the ability out before you commit to a knockback. Against a Dash user, expect a sudden escape or engage at any moment, because Dash comes back faster than anything else in the game.
For most players, the simplest plan is to stick with the free Dash while learning the arena. Pick up Hiss or Pounce cheaply once Coins start coming in, and save up for Anchor, Stomp, or Hairball depending on whether you’d rather hold ground, punish groups, or force opponents to move.
