The Loom is a weaving machine that lets you turn Linen into Fabric, and placing one unlocks the padding kits that the Hunter uses to craft better armor. Its in-game description reads, “A complex weaving machine which allows the manufucture of fabric.” You get your first one through a Hunter quest.
Quick answer: Take the Hunter’s quest “Loom For The Hunter”, travel to the Weaver’s Cottage in East Lapis in the Kindlewastes, pick up the Loom inside, and place it in your base.
Complete the “Loom For The Hunter” quest
The first Loom comes entirely from a Hunter quest. You need to rescue the Hunter first, then take the quest she offers.
Pick up “Loom For The Hunter” from the Hunter. The quest explains, “The Hunter needs a Loom to craft padding kits for better armor. She suggests looking for a weaver’s cottage in East Lapis. The general area is marked on the map. The cottage should be easy to spot since its decorated with banners.”
Make your way to East Lapis in the Kindlewastes, where the quest marks the general area on the map. Find the Weaver’s Cottage: it is the building decorated with banners. Reaching it updates the quest.
Go inside and pick up the Loom. At this point the quest reads, “The weaver’s cottage in East Lapis was found. The Loom for the Hunter should be somewhere inside. It must be recovered in order to craft padding kits and better armor.” The game shows “Special item acquired: Loom”, and the Spinning Wheel recipe unlocks at the Hunter.
Return and place the Loom in your base. The final objective states, “The Loom was retrieved. It should be placed in the base to unlock padding kits for better armor.” Once it is placed, the quest finishes and the padding kits become available at the Hunter.
Craft extra Looms at the Hunter
After you place that first Loom, the Hunter can craft more of them. You need a sheltered spot to build one. The Loom takes 5 Wood Logs, 10 Wood Planks, 5 Fossilized Bone, 1 Bronze Bars, 30 Linen and 10 Nails.
The Loom turns Linen into Fabric. The recipe takes 2 Linen to make 1 Fabric, and each batch runs for 120 seconds. Picking up the Loom also unlocks the Spinning Wheel at the Hunter. The Spinning Wheel takes 2 Wood Logs, 2 Wood Planks, 3 Fossilized Bone, 2 Bronze Bars and 5 Nails, and it makes Linen from Flax and String from Plant Fiber more cheaply.
