Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get the Smelter and the Crucible

Dig the Crucible out of the Scavengers' mine, then build the Smelter at the Blacksmith's Forge.

Dig the Crucible out of the Scavengers’ mine, then build the Smelter at the Blacksmith’s Forge.

The Smelter is the station that lets the Blacksmith melt ores and make alloys in Enshrouded, and you cannot build one until you own a Crucible. The first Crucible is not bought or crafted. It is buried in the Scavengers’ mine, and recovering it unlocks the Smelter recipe at the Blacksmith.

Quick answer: Dig up the Crucible at Mark of Sameth in the Revelwood. Then have the Blacksmith make a Smelter from 50 Fired Bricks, plus 1 Crucible at a Forge with shelter.

Start the “Crucible Needed For A Smelter” quest

Rescue the Blacksmith and give him a sheltered bed. Once he is settled, he starts the quest “Crucible Needed For A Smelter”. The first step, Retrieve The Crucible, reads: “The Blacksmith needs a Smelter to craft better equipment. To craft a Smelter, a Crucible is needed. He suspects the Scavengers have his old Crucible at their mine in the Revelwood.”

The Crucible’s own description confirms its purpose: “Used in a Smelter to melt ores and create alloys.” You need it before the Smelter recipe appears at the Blacksmith.

Get the Crucible from Mark of Sameth

The quest directs you to Mark of Sameth in the Revelwood, a mine occupied by the Scavengers.

Enter the mine and descend to the quest’s marked location, labeled “Search this area”.

Use a pickaxe to break through the loose dirt and uncover the hidden spot, then collect the Crucible. A notification appears: “Special item acquired: Crucible”; the Smelter recipe also becomes available at the Blacksmith.

With the Crucible in hand, the quest moves to Craft A Smelter: “The Crucible was found. It needs to be crafted into a Smelter with the Blacksmith in order to unlock more crafting recipes.”

Build the Forge, then craft the Smelter

Before crafting the Smelter, set up a Forge for the Blacksmith in a sheltered place. The Forge takes 30 Stone, 10 Metal Scraps, 10 Charcoal and 12 Wood Logs.

Make 50 Fired Bricks.
Use the Blacksmith’s menu to make the Smelter from 50 Fired Bricks, plus 1 Crucible. This requires a Forge in a sheltered location. Its description reads: “Used by a smith to melt and alloy metals.”
Place the Smelter in your base. The Smelter unlocks more crafting recipes at the Blacksmith.

Craft more Crucibles at the Blacksmith

Once you have the first Crucible, the Blacksmith can make additional ones. At a sheltered Forge, each recipe requires 3 Lump of Clay, 3 Springlands Dirt and 5 Sand. Fine Sand, Veilwater Basin Sand or Cinder’s Cradle Sand can replace the Sand.

What the Smelter makes

Once placed, the Smelter turns ores into bars and alloys, and it also makes glass. These are its recipes and crafting times.
