Recipe notes lie out in the world in Permafrost, and each one teaches a recipe. The map has 49 of them. You pick a note up like any other item, and its recipe unlocks straight away, with a banner naming what you have learned. Recipes gained this way sit under the world recipes tab on the Blueprints screen, kept apart from the ones bought with blueprint points.
Horizon and the Solar Power Plant have the most notes, 5 each. Technocrats Colony follows with 4, and Greenhouse, Military Area and Church have 3 apiece. The notes at Horizon teach Survivor's Boots, Survivor's Hood, Survivor's Trousers, Wall Torch and Wooden Chest. At Bunker Checkpoint you can learn Moon Cult Pants and Refined Flint Pickaxe, and Hunter's Glade has a note for the Refined Flint Shiv.
