The Prophetess tarot card glowing as a new clue is found

Medusa is represented by The Prophetess in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. Four clues are linked to this card, and every one is found in Holy Innocents’ Cemetery. Picking up a clue brings up a page showing its title and text, followed by the message “New clue about The Prophetess”. To review them later, open The Prophetess card in the Tarot menu.

Quick answer: The four Prophetess clues are in the Sepulcher of the Knight, the Fountain of the Innocents, the Roman Baths and Pauper’s Grave. You can fight Medusa before collecting all of them. For the clues of every other Arcana, see the full list of all 40 clue locations.

All four locations are part of Holy Innocents’ Cemetery. The clue titles use the game’s own spelling, including “Cemetary.”

“Roman Baths” clue in the Sepulcher of the Knight

The Sepulcher of the Knight is a room below the Cloister. To reach it, you drop through a hole in the Cloister’s floor.

Go to the Cloister in Holy Innocents’ Cemetery. Find the opening in the floor and drop through it into the Sepulcher of the Knight.
Look for the spirit standing on a balcony in the Sepulcher. Walk up to it until the interact prompt appears.
Press INTERACT to talk to the spirit. On PC, the prompt reads “INTERACT E”.

The spirit says, “The Captain of the Guard led us to the ruins of the Roman Baths to find the creature… it did not go well.”

Next, the clue page opens with the title “Roman Baths”. Rose replies, “Sounds like there’s another soul-gathering guardian around.” The “New clue about The Prophetess” notice then confirms the clue has been saved.

The creature they pursued was Medusa. Her hunters entered the Roman Baths ruins, which are within Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and along the route to her lair.

“Cemetary Fountain” clue in the Fountain of the Innocents

In the Fountain of the Innocents, check the upper-left part of the room. A small chamber with tall arched windows sits there, and the spirit is inside. Talk to it to open the clue page titled “Cemetary Fountain”, which reads, “The fountain… is strange… anything… thrown in… disappears…”

Rose responds, “The fountain must have a hidden bottom… somewhere.” She is right. This clue describes a real shortcut.

On the Fountain of the Innocents’ lower level, step into the fountain. Its concealed base gives way beneath Rose, dropping her into the Serpents’ Lair, where Medusa’s door is located. Arrival triggers the “SERPENTS’ LAIR” banner in a green hall draped with chains. The fountain’s hidden bottom is covered step by step in the cemetery secrets guide.

“Guardian’s Gaze” clue in the Roman Baths

The third clue is in the Roman Baths, the same ruins the first spirit mentions. Its text reads, “I came to fight the monster… but then I saw the eyes… I could not move… I could not hide… should have turned away…” Afterward, Rose says, “Even in death, these spirits help me…”

This clue warns you about Medusa’s eyes. During the fight, she leans forward and light gathers on her face. Then a wide yellow-green beam sweeps across the upper level of the arena. If it hits Rose, she is covered in green crystals and turned to stone.

The spirit’s advice is to turn away. When her face starts to glow, move out of the beam’s path instead of staying in front of her.

“The roots of the Hollow Tree” clue in Pauper’s Grave

You find the fourth clue in Pauper’s Grave. It reads, “My sister… disappeared… I think she slipped beneath the roots of the hollow tree…” Rose answers, “Hmm… Alright, hollow tree…”

The clue points to a way down under the roots of a hollow tree somewhere in the cemetery.

Do you need all four clues to fight Medusa?

You can open Medusa’s door and start the fight without finding every clue. For example, the Tarot menu can contain just the “Roman Baths” and “Cemetary Fountain” clues when battle begins. These clues offer guidance; they are not required to unlock the fight.

These clues also contribute to the Steam achievement The Greatest Detective. To earn it, uncover the complete set of clues: 40 in total. If you are pursuing this achievement, collect all four Prophetess clues.

Defeat Medusa to obtain The Prophetess Arcana and The Prophetess’s Key. This key is one of three required to unlock the sealed door leading to the Catacombs.
