Ammonia Gland is a crafting material in Enshrouded that drops from the Fell Fungal Friend. It feeds the Tanning Station, the Laboratory, several Alchemist recipes, and a key upgrade for your Flame Altar. In the game’s words, this gland holds “a concentrated substance which can be used to tan furs.”
Quick answer: Kill the Fell Fungal Friend inside the Shroud in the Nomad Highlands. Each one drops 4–6 Ammonia Glands.
Where Ammonia Gland comes from
The Fell Fungal Friend is a large mushroom creature with a red cap, and it lives inside the Shroud in the Nomad Highlands. It is the enemy that drops Ammonia Glands, so you will need to head into the fog to find one.

Two uses eat the most Ammonia Gland. Leather at the Tanning Station takes 2 per batch, and the Flame Altar upgrade from level 4 to 5 asks for 20 at once.
| Recipe / upgrade | Ammonia Gland | Output or notes |
|---|---|---|
| Leather (Tanning Station) | 2 | With 10 Dried Fur and 20 Salt, makes 10 Leather |
| Paper (Laboratory) | 1 | With 1 log, makes 5 Paper |
| Flame Altar level 4 to 5 | 20 | Part of a larger material list |
To raise the Flame Altar from level 4 to level 5, provide 20 each of Ammonia Gland, Mint Mushroom Meat, Fossilized Bone, Spark, Tin Ore, and Rooibos, along with 1 Fell Monstrosity Head. The Flame Altar upgrade requirements page covers the remaining flame levels too.
Alchemist and armor recipes
The Alchemist uses Ammonia Gland for Acid Bite (2), plus Eternal Ice Bolt II and Eternal Acid Bite I (20 each). Several pieces of gear across the crafting stations call for small amounts too.
- Guardian Chestplate, Blackguard Chest and Riptide: 2 each (Blacksmith)
- Magician Chest and Omen Chest: 2 each (Alchemist)
- Fowler Chest: 2, Hunter Trousers: 3 (Hunter); Mercenary Gloves: 2 (Blacksmith)
- Coloring Station colors: 1 each
Because the Tanning Station links Ammonia Gland to Leather, it helps to line up the other tanning inputs first. You can read where to find Salt at the Egerton Salt Mines and how to gather Animal Fur, which turns into the Dried Fur the recipe needs.
