Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get Critter Carapace

At level 33, Critter Carapace is a crafting ingredient in Enshrouded, obtained from Fell Critters found within the Shroud. It ranks above the Critter Parts drop and is used in most Albaneve chest armor recipes, so stock up once you reach the Albaneve Summits.

Quick answer: Use fast travel to reach the Ancient Spire in the Albaneve Summits, then descend into the Shroud nearby and hunt Fell Critters. Critter Carapace is listed among the drops on the screen’s left side.

The item’s in-game description reads: “A carapace that protects the soft critter’s flesh underneath.” It stacks up to 250.

Farm Critter Carapace in the Albaneve Summits Shroud

The Fell Critters in the Albaneve Summits Shroud drop Critter Carapace, and the Ancient Spire there is a good starting point.

Bring up the map, then use fast travel to reach the Ancient Spire in the Albaneve Summits.

Head into the Shroud nearby. Keep an eye on your Shroud timer while you are inside.

Kill the Fell Critters you find in the Shroud.

Check the drop panel along the screen’s left edge. A Fell Critter may yield Critter Parts, Critter Glands, Sulfur and Critter Carapace in one kill.

Keep farming until you collect the amount you need, and get out of the Shroud before the timer expires.

What Critter Carapace is used for

Critter Carapace goes mostly into Albaneve chest armor. Every one of those recipes also calls for Silver Bars, Warm Padding and Amethyst.

The Hunter chests add Violet Fabric to the shared Warm Padding, Amethyst and Silver Bars. The Frostbite Slasher Chest takes 2 Critter Carapace, 2 Warm Padding, 1 Violet Fabric, 4 Amethyst and 3 Silver Bars, while the Alpine Antler Chest and Trailblazer Chest each take 2 Critter Carapace, 2 Warm Padding, 2 Violet Fabric, 4 Amethyst and 3 Silver Bars. Each Alchemist and Blacksmith chest takes 1 Critter Carapace, 3 Silver Bars, 2 Warm Padding, 4 Amethyst and 2 Obsidian Dust.

Weapons and other crafts

Riptide (Blacksmith): 2 Critter Carapace, 4 Silver Bars and 3 Conifer Logs.
The Alchemist makes Explosive Crawler with 10 Critter Carapace and 1 Bones.
At Grinding Stones, 3 Critter Carapace—or 3 Critter Parts—can be processed into 3 Chitin Powder.
