Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get the Tanning Station

The Tanning Station lets the Hunter mass produce Leather. Your first one does not come from a crafting menu. You claim it by following the Hunter’s quest across the Nomad Highlands. Picking it up unlocks the recipe; placing it at your base completes the quest.

Quick answer: Take the Hunter’s quest “In Need Of A Tanning Station” and talk to the Carpenter. Investigate Raven’s Keep, then recover the Tanning Station inside Lupa’s Lair. Both sites are in the Nomad Highlands, and retrieving the station unlocks its recipe.

What you need before starting

The Hunter and Carpenter must both be rescued and present in your world. Once they are, take the Hunter’s quest “In Need Of A Tanning Station”; this sets the route to the station in motion.

The item itself explains why it matters once you read its card: “This workplace will enable the Hunter to mass produce leather.”

How to get the first Tanning Station

Talk to the Carpenter after taking the quest. He knows of a Hunter from the Nomad Highlands and sends you toward Raven’s Keep.

Head into the Nomad Highlands and search Raven’s Keep; keep exploring until the quest directs you to Lupa’s Lair.

Fight your way into Lupa’s Lair, a Scavenger camp located in the Nomad Highlands.

Pick up the Tanning Station found in Lupa’s Lair. This triggers “Recipe unlocked: Tanning Station at Hunter”.

Place the Tanning Station in your base. The quest completes once it is set down.

The quest stages, word for word

“In Need Of A Tanning Station” runs through four objectives at the Hunter, each with its own in-game text.

Talk To The Carpenter: “The Hunter wants to prepare fur and leather by drying it in the sun. She wonders if Nomad Highlands hunters could have tools and knowledge about it, but doesn’t know any. Perhaps somebody else knows a Hunter from the area.”

Explore Raven’s Keep: “The Carpenter knows a fearsome Hunter from the Nomad Highlands. She was as big as a mountain and capable of taming animals. She was sent to Raven’s Keep after a gruesome fight. This Hunter might have owned a Tanning Station.”

Obtain The Tanning Station From Lupa’s Lair: “The residents of Raven’s Keep have escaped. They fought through hordes of Vukah to break out, led by their new matron. They seem to have moved on to Lupa’s Lair. Perhaps the Tanning Station can be obtained there.”

Place The Tanning Station: “Lupa’s Lair contained a valuable Tanning Station. The Hunter should be happy to learn about it. Place the Tanning Station to unlock more recipes.”

Crafting more Tanning Stations

After the recipe is unlocked, the Hunter can build more on her own. Each Tanning Station takes 10 Wood Planks, 4 Nails, 10 Lump of Clay and 10 Tar, and the Hunter needs a sheltered spot to place it.
