Craft the Grinding Stones at the Alchemist for 10 Flintstone and 15 Stone, then grind hard ingredients into powders and more.

The Grinding Stones are a base station you unlock through the Alchemist. Once placed, you feed them raw materials and they return refined versions, turning Bones into Bonemeal, Wheat Grains into Flour, critter shells into Chitin Powder, and several other ingredients. Their description reads, “A simple setup for basic grinding work. Especially good for hard ingredients.”

Quick answer: Save the Alchemist and take him to your base; there, make Grinding Stones from 10 Flintstone and 15 Stone.

Craft the Grinding Stones at the Alchemist

The recipe lives with the Alchemist, so you need him settled at your base before the Grinding Stones become available. Rescuing the Alchemist is the gate here; after that the crafting itself is quick.

Rescue the Alchemist and bring him back to your base so his crafting options open up.
Gather 10 Flintstone and 15 Stone, the full cost of a single set of Grinding Stones.
Open the Alchemist’s menu and make the Grinding Stones there.

Place the finished Grinding Stones somewhere in your base.
Interact with them, pick a recipe, and load in the required resources. The station then runs that recipe and produces the output once its timer finishes.

What the Grinding Stones make

Each recipe takes a set number of inputs and gives back a set number of outputs after a fixed time.

2 Bones3 Bonemeal60 seconds
3 Charcoal3 Coal Powder90 seconds
3 Critter Parts or Critter Carapace3 Chitin Powder150 seconds
3 Wheat Grains3 Flour300 seconds

Bonemeal is “Useful for alchemical and magical purposes.” Coal Powder is “Ground up coals, creating a highly flammable powder.” Chitin Powder is a “Fine powder made from grinding critter carapaces.” Flour is “Flour that can be created by grinding Wheat Grains to dust.” You can also work with Obsidian, Silver Bars, and Fossilized Bone for their respective dusts.

Grind region rubble

The Grinding Stones also produce rubble for each region. The pattern is the same everywhere: 1 Rubble plus 5 of the region’s stone plus its dirt or sand makes 10 of that region’s rubble in 70 to 80 seconds.
