Where to Go After Both Death Fights in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

The route from the Catacombs to Dracula's castle, and from the Notre-Dame Transept to the Scales of Justice.

Dracula's castle under a red moon in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

You fight Death twice in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. The first fight is deep in the Catacombs of Paris, and the second is in the Transept of Notre-Dame. The routes overlap at the Bridge of the Millers, Court of Justice, and Palace of Justice.

Quick answer: After the Catacombs fight, take the Ferryman to Paris Streets and go west to the Notre-Dame Bridge and into the castle. After the Transept fight, go to the infirmary, then the Choir, then the Palace of Justice.

After the first Death fight: Catacombs of Paris to Dracula’s castle

The Catacombs encounter ends in a story cutscene, not a kill. More on that first encounter: can you beat Death in the Catacombs? When the scenes finish, you wake up in the Catacombs ruins with a banner that reads “Reach Dracula’s Castle”. The map shows the same objective, so you’re on the right track once it appears.

Catacombs ruins to Paris Streets

Head up and to the left out of the ruins. Use the whip to break the cracked stone wall that blocks the way.
Climb the tall spiked chambers using the glowing rings. Keep going up until you come out onto a wooden pier, which is Ferryman’s Wharf.
Press R1 (INTERACT) at the boat. A screen titled “FERRYMAN’S WHARF / CHOOSE A DESTINATION” opens. Every boat and mirror stop is in our fast travel guide.

Select Paris Streets. When the game asks “Are you sure you want to travel to this location ?”, confirm it.

Paris Streets west to the Gate to the Stone Bridge

From Paris Streets the route runs west through a chain of areas. Here is the order and what each one asks of you:

AreaWhat to do
Justice District SewersPass through to the bridge
Bridge of the MillersWatch the castle cutscene, then run west into the doorway
Court of JusticeGrapple up the shaft, hit the floor switch, climb to the balcony bridge
Palace of JusticeSurvive the sealed hall’s enemy waves
DocksCross spiked wheels and rings to a lever
Gate to the Stone BridgeUse the mirror, then open the iron gate

A cutscene on the Bridge of the Millers reveals Dracula’s castle on the opposite side of the water. When it ends, run west along the wooden framework and enter the doorway ahead. In the Court of Justice, raised walkways span gaps over spikes; activate the switch in a compact control room with INTERACT [R1] to open a gate.

Inside the Palace of Justice is a giant, tree-shaped scale marked “BALANCING THE SCALES OF JUSTICE”. This area is for a later story section, so continue once the hall opens. In the Docks, an elevated chest contains the Bastard Sword (Refined, ATK 50). At the Gate to the Stone Bridge, use R1 on the mirror to update your map, then press R1 at the large iron gate to reveal the castle.

Notre-Dame Bridge, Isaac, and the castle entrance

Make your way across the Notre-Dame Bridge’s broken piers by using the whip rings. If you drop into the water, you’ll reappear on a nearby ledge. A gatehouse lever operated with R1 controls part of the crossing. Deal with the guards on the distant deck, then head right through the archway.

Isaac is waiting on the other side with a single red bar labeled “ISAAC”. This first version of him is an illusion. Both Isaac fights are covered in our Isaac guide.

After the battle, the bridge gives way. Follow the remaining section to the right and enter the castle through the front doorway. The route passes through the Inner Courtyard and then the Entrance Corridor, where a “New Objective” banner appears. The map changes to “Find Dracula and defeat him”, marking the end of this stretch. The castle route carries on in walkthrough part 4.

After the second Death fight: Notre-Dame Transept to the Scales of Justice

Death comes back in the Transept of Notre-Dame, and this fight ends with a kill. You’ll know it’s over when the trophy “Death… killed?” pops and you absorb The Shadow, which gives you the spell Soul Harvest. Our Death boss guide covers both fights. Several stops follow in order:

Vampire Killer in the Notre-Dame infirmary

Trevor calls to you as soon as the fight is over. Go to the Notre-Dame infirmary; a cutscene there awards the Vampire Killer card, marked LEGENDARY with ATK 100. The “Stuff of Legends” trophy unlocks at that same moment. Full details: how to get the Vampire Killer.

Double Jump in the Choir

In the Choir, a glowing yellow door sits in front of a wide gap. Reach it and a box appears reading “DOUBLE JUMP / You can jump a SECOND TIME by pressing cross when Rose is in the air.” Use the new jump to get onto the ledge above the spike pit. The abilities before it are in our movement ability guide.

The sword in the Notre-Dame Chapel

A pedestal on the chapel altar holds a sword. Press INTERACT [R1] to reveal the “FEAT OF STRENGTH” card, followed by “NEW CLUE ABOUT THE BRITTLE KING”. You cannot draw the sword at this point in the story; the sword comes back in how to get Excalibur and beat Arthur.

Back to the Palace of Justice by Ferryman

Go to the Main Hall wharf and choose Paris Streets from the Ferryman. This takes you back to the city.
Go through the sewer door and cross the Bridge of the Millers. Continue into the Court of Justice.
Move on to the Palace of Justice and find the Scales of Justice. Stand on the empty left pan.
Stand on the pan and press INTERACT [R1]. Leon’s trial before Saint Louis then plays out.

Finishing the trial awards The Judge, which grants the Chains of Justice spell, as well as the Valmanway weapon. The steps are in how to balance the Scales of Justice. The route leads back to the Clock Tower and then onward to Dracula, as laid out in walkthrough part 8.
