How to Beat Alluvion in Final Fantasy Resonance (Water Shrine)

How to beat Alluvion, the Water Shrine boss in Final Fantasy Resonance: destroy both Prism Cores before the marked turn so Graceful Deluge fails, Siren and Thunder on the cores, Limit Bursts and Crystal Braver in staggers, plus Libra stats, attacks and the Azure Amulet drop.

Alluvion standing in the Water Shrine boss room

Alluvion waits at the lowest point of the Water Shrine during Chapter 3 of Final Fantasy Resonance, “Wardens of the Aquapolis”, while you pursue “Go deeper into the Water Shrine”. Its signature move is Graceful Deluge, but you can prevent it from going off. Our party of Rain, Lid, Lasswell and Archwitch Fina fought it at Lv. 23, three levels below the Water Shrine door’s recommended Lv. 26. Nichol is also present as a guest combatant and takes his turns independently.

Quick answer: Remove both Prism Cores before Alluvion reaches its marked move; Graceful Deluge is then canceled with “Tch…not enough power…” Focus Thunder and Siren on the cores, and use every stagger opening for Limit Bursts and Crystal Braver.

Alluvion is a Lv. 26 Humanoid with 48,000 HP. It is weak to Thunder and nullifies Water. The battle takes place on B2, the shrine’s lowest level, just past the boss save point. Graceful Deluge is the attack that wipes parties, and the Prism Cores supply its power.

Where to fight Alluvion and the boss save point

The way down opens once all three seal pedestals are done, in Area 3, Area 4, and Area 2. Head back to Area 1 and ride the octagonal lift with four blue lamps down to B2. The Water Shrine walkthrough covers the full route to that point.

The lift drops you beside the B2 save point.

From its menu, you can save progress, rest in a tent, or teleport. This is the final save point before the boss, so restore your party and save.

The B2 save point has Teleport.

Go through the north arch past the save point and the boss scene starts automatically. A story scene with El plays, and the battle follows straight after with no way to back out. As the fight opens, Nichol says, “Alluvion… You will never be forgiven for your transgressions.” He then joins as a guest and takes his own turns.

Nichol: Alluvion... You will never be forgiven for your transgressions.

Alluvion’s Libra stats, weakness and the Azure Amulet

Libra on Alluvion shows Lv. 26, HP 48,000, Type Humanoid, weak to Thunder, and Water nullified. Its Trait 1 reads “Power of special skill increases with each prism core.” Under Items Dropped it lists the Azure Amulet. There is no rare drop and nothing to steal. Alluvion sits on the bosses list with the rest of the game’s boss fights.

Winning gives you the Azure Amulet. The Battle Result screen lists “Azure Amulet x1” under Items Obtained. The description reads “Imbues non-elemental physical attacks with Water.” and the amulet sells for 8,750 Gil. It also appears on the accessories list.

Avoid Water attacks here because they have no effect on Alluvion. Status effects are mostly useless on the boss:

  • No effect: Poison, Sleep, Confuse, Petrify, Charm, Berserk, Death, Gravity
  • Strongly resisted: Blind, Silence, Paralysis

How the Prism Cores and Graceful Deluge work

The opening banner reads “Prism cores formed!”, and two cores, A and B, appear.

Prism cores formed!

Libra gives each core’s details as Lv. 26, 4,000 HP, Type Fairy, and a weakness to Thunder. Each core has its own place on the turn order bar and casts Ruin at one party member, dealing about 600 damage.

Watch Alluvion’s own icon on the turn order bar. Before the absorb turn, it gets a yellow “!” with a red glow.

If any core is still alive on that turn, Alluvion says “Take this!”, the banner “Prism cores absorbed!” appears, and the cores disappear.

Alluvion: Take this!
Take this! comes right before the cores are absorbed.

Alluvion then casts Graceful Deluge on the whole party, hitting each member for roughly 300 to 800.

After that, “Prism cores formed!” shows up again with a new pair. They go C and D, then E and F, and so on, roughly every two rounds. Alluvion’s trait ties the special skill’s strength to each prism core.

Alluvion strategy: destroy both Prism Cores before the marked turn

Use the first turn to set up. Lasswell casts Haste on Rain (it sits at the bottom of Lasswell’s Skills), and Lid casts Shellga from Leah’s Skills to soften the magic hits. Archwitch Fina summons Siren, whose Aero strikes Alluvion and both cores at once and can put a Prism Core to Sleep.

Send every attack into the cores, not Alluvion. Rain’s Thundara, Lid’s Lightning Scroll I, Archwitch Fina’s Thundara Blade, and Lasswell’s Attack all go to the cores, which come right after Alluvion in the target list. A single-target Thundara deals the same damage to a core as to Alluvion, and the cores can be staggered for a bonus turn.
Keep an eye on the turn order bar and clear both cores before Alluvion’s marked turn.

With both gone, Alluvion says “Tch…not enough power…” and Graceful Deluge never happens. The party takes no damage from it.

Alluvion: Tch...not enough power...
Graceful Deluge fails.
Switch everyone back to the cores the moment a new pair forms. A single surviving core is enough to trigger Graceful Deluge, and with one core of the third pair left standing, the attack can knock out three of four party members. Siren helps here again.

What Graceful Deluge does when a core survives.
Deal your damage to Alluvion during staggers, and hold Limit Bursts for those windows. Lid’s March of the Machines staggers Alluvion and starts the Bonus Phase, and the stagger system then opens the Select Resonance wheel.

With the full party up it offers Hibernal Fury, Healing Wind, and Crystal Braver, so pick Crystal Braver for damage. With only two members standing, the Resonance wheel offers only Healing Wind.

Restore the party’s health each round. Cancelling Graceful Deluge doesn’t stop core Ruin or Alluvion’s Water, Drain, and The Divine Signet; these attacks deal about 300 to 700 damage to each member per round. Archwitch Fina can heal everyone with Cura, with Mist Potions as backup. Give her an Ether to let her summon Siren again, and immediately use a Phoenix Down if anyone is knocked out.
Choose Retry if the party is defeated. The defeat screen displays “The party has fallen…” and offers Retry, Load, and Return to Title.

Selecting Retry brings up “Retry this battle from the beginning?” with No selected. Move to Yes to restart using the HP, MP, and items you had at the battle’s start. The long scene is skipped, and only the opening battle dialogue plays again. See the guide to escaping battle and what Retry does for more details.

Two accessories answer these attacks directly. The Calm Armlet from Area 2 of the Water Shrine reads “Prevents Confuse and Berserk.” The Aquatic Veil from Waterfall Way reads “Halves damage taken from Water attacks.” Both are worth equipping for this fight.

What to expect at level 23

At Lv. 23, three levels under the recommendation, damage on Alluvion stays low.

ActionResult
Rain’s Thundara (single target)“Weak +350%”, about 237 to 251

Lightning Scroll I“Weak +200%”
Lid’s AttackAbout 174
Archwitch Fina’s CuraHeals whole party for about 290
Rain’s Infinity Drive (Bonus Phase)About 880
Siren’s AeroAbout 1,850 total over Alluvion and both cores

At this level, healing runs out before Alluvion does. After about 60 turns, Alluvion can still hold roughly 72% of its HP.

The core trick keeps the party alive, but the fight stays long and draining. Arrive close to Lv. 26 and stock up on Mist Potions, Ethers, and Phoenix Downs.

After the fight

Defeating Alluvion triggers an extended story scene. After it finishes, your quest changes to “Go to Olderion, the aquapolis”, an autosave occurs, and you return to B2 next to the save point. Continue with the Final Fantasy Resonance walkthrough from there.
