The hooded Archwitch in the opening of Final Fantasy Resonance

Archwitch Fina is one of the eight playable characters in Final Fantasy Resonance, alongside Rain, Lasswell, Fina, Lid, Nichol, Jake and Sakura. She is a magic attacker who stacks debuffs and hits hard with Dark spells. You can’t buy her, and the Deluxe Edition doesn’t hand her over early either. She arrives on the story’s schedule.

Quick answer: Play the main story to Chapter 5, “Scars of Time”. She joins after the party goes into Fina’s psyche and is in your party by the “Go to Gronoa” stage.

How to get Archwitch Fina

There is only one route, and it’s the story. Chapter 5, “Scars of Time”, takes the party through the Arcane Library first, with the objectives “Defeat the monster tomes in the Arcane Library” and “Find the tome in the forbidden text wing”. From there the chapter moves into “Enter Fina’s psyche”, “Find Fina inside her psyche” and “Go after Archwitch Fina”.

The chapter keeps going after that, through the Tower of Mysidia, the Hessian base, Umbra’s camp and “Fight Tellus”, before ending on “Go to Gronoa”. By that final stage she is a full party member. You can confirm it the moment her own substory, Last Respite, opens at “Go to Gronoa”, because Archwitch Fina is the one who gives it.

You also fight her before she joins. As a boss she is Lv 38 with 100,000 HP, Humanoid, weak to Light and Water, and she halves Dark damage. Her traits read “Uses Paradise Lost to make Dark element more effective.” and “Unleashes full power when HP is lowered.” Beating her pays 15,000 EXP and 19,500 Gil. She sits on the full bosses list with the rest of the game’s fights.

Recruiting her counts toward “Those Who Defy Fate” (“Unlock all party members.”), which pops once every character on the character list is in your party.

Does the Deluxe Edition give you Archwitch Fina?

No. The Magitek & Grimoire Deluxe Pack comes with either the $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition or the $14.99 Digital Deluxe Upgrade. Its one exclusive item is the Archwitch’s Grimoire, whose description reads “Grants an ally known as the Archwitch the ability to learn the Fel Meteor limit burst.”

Her second Limit Burst is Fel Meteor: “Deal Dark magic damage to all enemies.” That is the only Deluxe-exclusive part of her. Players with the Standard Edition still recruit Archwitch Fina through the story, and the Grimoire has no effect until she joins the party. You can claim Deluxe items once you’ve advanced far enough in the game. See the Deluxe Edition breakdown for the pack’s other contents.

Playing as the Archwitch in the prologue

Final Fantasy Resonance opens on a hooded woman, the Archwitch. In the prologue’s “Battlefield” you control her alone. The game labels her only as “???”, with 5,199 HP, 521 MP and a whip in hand, and she greets the next wave of soldiers with “More reinforcements…”

Her skill list here has four entries. Dystopia costs 33 MP and reads “Deal Dark magic damage to all enemies. Damage increases by 10% for each consecutive use.” Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga cost 44 MP each.

One cast of Dystopia takes out all three soldiers. The prologue’s Lv 35 Cutting Edge Magitek Weapon is tougher, though her Limit Burst gauge charges while you fight. Press R to bring up Limit Bursts, then choose Chaotic Convergence, described as “Deal Dark magic damage to an enemy.”, to finish the battle.

During another scripted encounter, she calls the Esper Bahamut, which costs 50 MP and “Stays in battle for 3 turns”. Her prologue numbers are far above what she has when she joins in Chapter 5. The walkthrough follows the prologue battles in sequence.

Archwitch Fina’s role: Saboteur

Archwitch Fina is the only Saboteur in the game. No one else shares the role:

  • Rain: Sentinel
  • Lasswell: Breaker
  • Fina: Medic
  • Lid, Jake and Sakura: Commando
  • Nichol: Synergist

Her kit is debuffs, status ailments, drains and heavy Dark magic. In battle her commands show up as “Archwitch Fina’s Skills” and “Witchcraft” (“Use ability specific to Archwitch Fina”). The roles explainer covers how each role works in a party.

9Queenly Whip9Deal Dark physical damage to an enemy with a chance to decrease their attack and magic.
10Deshell6Decrease magic defense of an enemy.
13AllureChance to inflict Charm on all enemies.

19Dystopia33Deal Dark magic damage to all enemies. Damage increases by 10% for each consecutive use.
22Distress29Inflict a random status ailment or debuff on each enemy.
25Gravity25Reduce the current HP of an enemy by a set percentage.
28Death20Instantly KO an enemy.
31Confluence0Transfer LB gauges of all party members to self.
35Graviga50Reduce the current HP of all enemies by a set percentage.

38Paradise Lost28No description is provided. Her boss trait reads “Uses Paradise Lost to make Dark element more effective.”
41Shadow Unending70Consume 10% of max HP to deal Dark magic damage to an enemy.
55Meteor68Forbidden black magic that calls forth meteors. Deal non-elemental magic damage to random enemies 4 times.
61Ultima95Ultimate black magic lost in a great war. Deal non-elemental magic damage to all enemies.

Witching Hour plus Confluence plus her Dark spells is the obvious core. Witching Hour pumps every attribute, then Confluence pulls the whole party’s LB gauges onto her. The catch is that Witching Hour cancels white-magic healing on her, so use End Witching Hour before Fina or another healer needs to top her up. Her max level is 99, with more on that in the max level explainer, and every spell is on the spells list.

Archwitch Fina’s stat choice

Like every party member, she gets one “(How should I respond to Archwitch Fina?)” scene. It comes in Chapter 6, after the white jade stone is obtained. You get one reply, and the other two bonuses are gone for good.

ReplyBonus
“Yeah, you look sad.”MP +10
“Of course I’m worrying about you. Why wouldn’t I?”Magic +3
“I-I mean…sort of.”Mind +3

She’s a magic attacker, so Magic +3 is the pick. The answers for every other character are in the character choices list.

Last Respite: Archwitch Fina’s substory

Last Respite opens in Chapter 5 from the “Go to Gronoa” stage. Archwitch Fina gives it herself in Grandshelt, the Royal Capital. The objectives run in this order:

  • Take Archwitch Fina on a tour of Grandshelt (0/2): visit the Commercial District and then the Colosseum
  • Go to the castle garrison
  • Talk to the king of Grandshelt
  • Speak with Archwitch Fina aboard the airship, on its deck.

Finishing it pays out a Moonlight Ring x1 (“Increases damage dealt by magic attacks by 10%.”) and a permanent Attribute Bonus for Archwitch Fina: HP +100, MP +30, Magic +30 and Attack +20. It also counts toward “Conscience Renewed” (“Clear all party member substories.”), which you can track in the achievements guide. The rest of the optional content is on the side quests list.

Her airship-deck scene only exists from the Chapter 5 stage “Go to the Arcane Library” until the final story stage, “Go to the top of the tower” in Chapter 8, so finish Last Respite before your last climb of the Crystal Tower. It’s one of several missables worth clearing early.

  • Fire Birch: “Increases damage dealt, scaling with the number of debuffs and status ailments afflicting the target. Increases the duration of debuffs and status ailments inflicted by the wielder by 1 turn.”
  • Fire Birch+: Provides Fire Birch’s effects, and “Raises damage cap to 99999.”
  • Lunar Whip: “Restores 3% of max MP upon defeating an enemy.”

Abyss comes first. From Chapter 6, after the Forger of Wills quest, go to the airship deck and have Aileen forge it for 1 Adamantite; select Archwitch Fina from her list. Check her question answers and the guide to where to get Adamantite for each part of the process.

Fire Birch is obtained in the Chamber of Arms. You need the Ancient Whip, awarded for collecting 84 Tablet Shards at Oblivion Palace, then must defeat Nunki (Lv 50, 300,000 HP). Use the Tablet Shard locations to reach the required total. Fire Birch+ is earned from the ultimate trial: Archwitch Fina must be Lv 70 or higher, and you must defeat Nunki at Lv 75 with 1,040,000 HP.

Both Abyss and Fire Birch complement her Saboteur approach, since each benefits the debuffs she builds up; Fire Birch also offers higher stats. Find the Lunar Whip in a chest along the forest trail within Fina’s psyche during Chapter 5. The whips list gives shop costs and chest locations for the other whips. For Visions and accessories, consult best builds and best Visions for each character.
