Everything you need to permanently boost a Pal’s stats in the version 1.0 endgame, from Radiant Gems to the Ancient Workbench.

Awakening is the top layer of Pal progression in Palworld 1.0, a permanent stat upgrade you unlock deep in the World Tree endgame region. It sits above breeding, Condensation, and Souls, and it turns an already-finished Pal into a glowing, harder-hitting version of itself.

Quick answer: Craft an element-matched Awakening Crystal at an Ancient Workbench using 50 Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water, then use the crystal from your Inventory on a compatible Pal of the same element.

What Awakening does to a Pal

Awakening gives a Pal a significant, permanent boost to its overall stats, with full upgrades landing in roughly the 7–10% range. That makes an awakened Pal stronger in combat and more effective on base work assignments.

The change is easy to spot. An awakened Pal gains a golden glow while roaming the overworld, and its level number glows in the Party menu. The exact stat bonus also appears directly on the Pal’s status screen, so the investment is fully visible rather than hidden math.

Note: Awakening is not a breeding mechanic. It does not reroll passive skills, change IVs, alter a Pal’s species, or grant new abilities. It only amplifies the stats a Pal already has.

Requirements before you can awaken

The entire system is gated behind the version 1.0 endgame, so you need the current patch installed and access to the World Tree. Reaching that region means clearing nearly every major progression milestone first.

  • Defeat every Tower Boss across Palpagos, Feybreak, and Sunreach.
  • Complete the Panthalus questline, which includes crafting the Echoing Flute from four Echobones.
  • Catch the giant whale at the Deserted Islet and disable the barrier protecting the World Tree.

Enemies inside the World Tree can reach level 75 and above, so bring endgame gear and a team near the level cap. Once you can enter the area, you can start gathering the materials Awakening needs.

Build the Ancient Workbench first

You cannot craft any Awakening Crystal without the Ancient Workbench. It unlocks at level 67 in the Technology tab for 5 Technology Points, and assembling it carries a heavy 10,000 workload, so assign strong construction Pals to help.

Farm Radiant Gems and Holy Water in the World Tree

Radiant Gems only drop from the Pals living in the World Tree biome, and the gem’s element matches the Pal you defeat or capture. If you want 50 Fire Radiant Gems, hunt Fire-element Pals. The same rule applies to Water, Electric, Ground, Grass, Ice, Dragon, Dark, and Neutral gems.

Radiant Gems drop from World Tree Pals that share the gem’s element.

World Tree Holy Water drops the same way, from any Pal you clear or catch inside the region. You need at least 10 bottles for every crystal, so plan for a long farming session if you intend to awaken several Pals.

The environment fights back as much as the wildlife. Parts of the zone carry radiation that steadily drains your health and blocks healing while the effect is active, so equip a Gas Mask. Teafant Spring statues scattered through the area work as save points and restore the health of you and your party. Carrying Holy Water on the run also keeps Paloxite and Mythical Wood from vanishing as you approach, so a gem sweep can bank other endgame materials at the same time.

Craft and use the Awakening Crystal

Awakening Crystals come in one type per element: Water, Electric, Ground, Grass, Fire, Ice, Dragon, Dark, and Neutral. A crystal only works on a Pal that shares its element, so a Fire Awakening Crystal can only awaken a Fire Pal.

Return to your base and interact with the Ancient Workbench. Select the Awakening Crystal that matches your target Pal’s element.
Confirm the recipe. Each crystal consumes 50 element-matched Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water.
Open the Main Menu and go to the Inventory tab. Select the finished Awakening Crystal, and the game brings up your party with every compatible Pal highlighted.
Pick the Pal you want to awaken and confirm. The stat boost applies immediately and permanently.

How to confirm it worked

An awakened Pal shows a golden glow in the overworld and a glowing level number in the Party menu. Open its status screen to see the exact stat bonus Awakening added, listed alongside any Soul upgrades.

If the crystal will not apply to a Pal, the most common reason is an element mismatch. A crystal only highlights and works on Pals of the same element, so a Dark crystal cannot be used on a Dragon Pal. Confirm you have the matching crystal type before spending your gems.

Which Pals to awaken first

Because Radiant Gems take real time to gather, spend them where they multiply the most value. Awakening amplifies everything you have already invested, so it belongs at the very end of a Pal’s build rather than the start.

  • Prioritize finished, bred keepers with the right species, a full passive stack, refined IVs, and completed Condensation.
  • Awaken combat carries before base workers, since fighters gain more from raw stats while workers scale better through Condensation and Work Suitability.
  • Spread crystals across several elements instead of stacking one type, so your roster stays flexible against different enemy weaknesses.

Awakening Crystals are the scarce part of the loop because they must be crafted from a large pile of gems and Holy Water. Lock in the Pals you plan to keep for your endgame party first, then awaken them as the final step to push their stats past their natural limits.
