Quick answer: The Iron Gauntlets are a Martial Phantom Edge dropped by Stone Hand Iron Fever. He is a boss in a muddy clearing reached by the ladders beside the Mirrorwood Entrance bell in Crimson Forest.

The Iron Gauntlets come from a single fight. Beat Stone Hand Iron Fever and the reward card appears on the spot, followed by a prompt to equip the gauntlets right away.

The reward card puts “Martial” above the name “IRON GAUNTLETS” and lists “Damage 261” and “Guard Break 223″. Its description reads:

“A pair of heavy, unadorned iron gauntlets. Their spikes and striking plates have been polished bright through countless battles. They have high Shield-Breaking power and build Fist Focus, making each attack more powerful.”

The usage line explains how the gauntlets attack: “Press [key] repeatedly to perform up to 3 fist attacks. A full combo consumes 1 [Sha-Chi].” The game shows the key as an icon. In practice, one combo is up to three punches, and finishing all three costs 1 Sha-Chi.

The Fist Focus line reads: “Each attack with the Iron Gauntlets builds Fist Focus, increasing all damage dealt by the main weapon for 6 seconds.” The gauntlets sit in your Phantom Edge slot as a secondary weapon. Each hit with them raises the damage of your main weapon for 6 seconds. To see how they compare with other options, check the full Phantom Blade Zero weapons list and the best weapons picks.

Where to find Stone Hand Iron Fever

Reach the Mirrorwood Entrance bell in Crimson Forest and ring it. Rest there before going on, because it is the closest of the bells to the fight.
Look beside the bell for a ladder at the ledge’s edge, beside a tall rock wall draped in red ivy. Approach it, then press Space when the “Space” prompt appears to climb down.

At the base, descend the next ladder and continue along the downhill path. The whole descent from the bell is about 50 metres.
Walk into the muddy clearing, which is full of wrecked wooden scaffolds and planks, red-leaved trees and a large leaning tree trunk. Entering it starts Stone Hand Iron Fever’s intro cutscene.

What to expect from Stone Hand Iron Fever

Stone Hand Iron Fever belongs to the Maskwalkers. He is a massive, bare-chested fighter wearing a horned red demon mask, chains across his chest, and heavy iron gauntlets. In the cutscene, he identifies Soul as a member of the Order he fought years earlier. He believes the Order has committed worse crimes than the Maskwalkers, acknowledges that his rage has become impossible to restrain, and asks Soul to end it.

  • He has 33,062 HP on both Wayfarer and Pathbreaker, because the difficulty setting does not change boss health.
  • Combat starts when the cutscene finishes, with him already close by. Before you enter, make sure your health is full and your Medicine is replenished (healing explained).
  • The cutscene plays only on your first visit. If you walk back in after a death, the fight starts straight away.
  • A death returns you to the Mirrorwood Entrance bell; use the same pair of ladders to descend again.

For his backstory, look for “STONE HAND IRON FEVER’S MEMORY FLOWER”, “I. THE LEGACY”. It grows a few metres before the Mirrorwood Entrance bell. The memory shows him arguing with his senior brother, Iron Fiend of the Iron Fist Sect, after the two avenge their master. Iron Fiend wants to stop fighting, while Iron Fever wants to carry on their master’s ambitions. The other Memory Flowers and the full bosses list are covered separately.

Equipping the Iron Gauntlets

Right after the IRON GAUNTLETS card, the game displays “Equip the new Phantom Edge now?” and the choices “Advanced”, “Confirm” and “Back”. Select Confirm to equip the gauntlets at once. Choose Back to retain your current Phantom Edge; the gauntlets will remain in your inventory for later.
