Sphinx, Devourer of the Unworthy is a creature that belongs to no part of the known world, holding an old and boundless power that people cannot grasp. It was born of the plague, and its existence shows that the sickness can bring new beings into the world rather than only twisting what already lives. Those new beings can be awe-inspiring as well as dreadful. The Sphinx hints that whatever drives the calamity aims at something far larger than humanity has grasped. You fight it in the Caverns, a region that opens in main quest chapter 4, DARK DESCENT. The nearest Lantern to the arena is Ancient Lair.
The fight runs over 2 phases. You cannot block its orb bash single, wave single, wave multiple, locust projectile, orb homing, spike, stomp and vanish attacks, so dodge them instead of raising your guard. Its attacks also build up Stasis on you. Defeating the Sphinx gives 20,000 Catalysts and unlocks the Not a Cat Person achievement.
