Fisch: How to Wish for Rods in the Skycrest Update

The Skycrest update brings back rod wishing in Fisch, but it works differently from Santa’s Letter. Instead of typing a rod name into a form, you climb to the floating island, earn the right to wish by clearing trials for one of the island’s stone idols, and then pick a vaulted rod from a menu. What you get back is not the rod itself.

Quick answer: Travel to Skycrest Island, talk to Ryusei at GPS -26331, 3150, -4459, complete all five trials from any single Ancient Idol, then return to Ryusei to open the Wish of the Sky menu and select a limited rod.

What the wish actually gives you

Wishing does not drop a rod into your inventory. Selecting a rod from Ryusei’s menu starts that rod’s original questline, which is the point of the system, since most of these rods were vaulted by the developers and their quests are otherwise unavailable. Your side quest list will show the chosen rod marked as wished once the selection registers.

That distinction matters for planning. Astraeus Serenade, for example, is one of the strongest all-round rods in the game, but its questline is long and demands 50,000,000 C$ before you finish. Wishing for it commits you to that grind rather than handing you the rod.

Ryusei sits in the Sanctuary area of Skycrest and is tied to limited-time Fischfest content. No official end date for the wish has been confirmed.

How to reach Skycrest Island and find Ryusei

Go to Moosewood at GPS 350, 135, 250. Next to the leaderboard you will find the large pink clam teleporter that sends you to the Fischfest 2 island. If you have already filled 50% of the Fischfest 2 Bestiary, your Magic Conch does the same job from anywhere.

Head down to the water and spawn a boat from the Shipwright. Sail toward the vertical waterfall that hangs from the floating island at GPS -25700, 2591, -4712. The waterfall is the only entrance, and it is visible from a long way out.

Swim up through the falling water until you surface on top of the island. A Tidebreaker also works if you would rather launch yourself up instead of swimming the whole way.

Once you are on the island, walk to the left side and speak to Ryusei, the Limited Time Wish NPC, at GPS -26331, 3150, -4459. He explains the requirement and locks the wish behind five idol trials.

Pick one Ancient Idol, then clear its five trials

Seven Ancient Idols are scattered around Skycrest: Hayate, Ebisu, Fudo, Nagomi, Goriki, Shunsoku and Amanojaku. Each one hands out its own set of five trials, and Ryusei only needs five completions from a single idol. Progress does not pool across idols, so committing to one and finishing its full set is the fastest route.

Nagomi, at GPS -26193, 3083, -4550, has the least demanding set. Nothing in it requires rare weather or a tight timer, though one task is slow rather than hard.

100 Crab Cage catches	Buy 100 Crab Cages from the Moosewood merchant, line them along the dock, wait roughly 10 minutes and claim.
Grandpa Horseshoe Crab	A secret rarity catch at the Desolate Deep. Use a Relic or Gold Crab Cage with Golden Shrimp Bait during Clear or Rain weather in Spring.

Other idols lean on weather, movement and speed instead. A wind-themed set runs through the sequence below, and it is worth knowing because several of its objectives are completed away from Skycrest entirely.

Stand still	Remain motionless at the totem for 60 seconds, then talk to the idol again.
Fairy Wrasse	Catch and hand in either a Blessed Fairy Wrasse or a Vibrant Fairy Wrasse. Only one of the two is needed.
Sailfish in Windy weather	Wait for Windy weather, then land a Sailfish. Moosewood is a convenient spot for this.
African Butterfly	Catch a Gusty or Breezed African Butterfly. Both mutations are fishable at Skycrest.
Hang glider velocity	Hold maximum hang glider speed for 5 seconds. Launching from the top of Glacial Grotto gives you the drop you need.
Astraeus Wyvern	Land an Astraeus Wyvern in under 20 seconds at Skycrest. Set your rod and bait before you cast.

Note: the velocity trial specifically checks the hang glider, not the standard glider, so make sure the correct item is equipped before you jump.

Common reasons the trials do not register

Moving the camera during the 60-second stand-still task resets it, not just moving your character.
Splitting completions across two different idols. Ryusei counts five trials from one idol only.
Casting for the Sailfish before Windy weather has actually started in the server.
Using the normal glider in place of the hang glider.
Catching the Wyvern but going past the 20-second limit. Prepare your setup before the attempt.

Confirming the wish and choosing a rod

Return to Ryusei after the fifth trial and take the dialogue option saying you are ready. The Wish of the Sky menu opens with the eligible rods laid out for selection. That menu appearing is your confirmation the trials were counted.

The selectable rods include Acidgrinder, Castbound, Cinderstring, Eardrum, Fallen Snowblade, Lullaby, MiguRod, Noiseform, Nocturne, Part, Remembrance, Soulreaper, Steampunk Rod, Test Rod, Wingkeeper and Wingripper. The exact list you see can be shorter than someone else’s, since rods you already own drop off it and a few entries carry their own waiting period before they can be claimed.

Once you pick one, the associated quest appears in your side quest list with the rod name flagged as wished. From there you complete the original questline as it was designed.

Astraeus Serenade carries the highest luck and longest line of the four, along with a 50% Progress Speed passive and a chance to fill the progress bar outright, which is why it is the usual pick for a general-purpose rod. Wingripper is a night-fishing specialist, gaining a large Progress Speed boost after dark at the cost of control dropping into negative values. Noiseform and Castbound are also worth a look if money-making is your priority, both pairing high luck with infinite weight capacity.

The one thing not worth doing is spending the wish on something already reachable through normal play. Because the selection starts a questline rather than granting gear, the best value comes from unlocking a rod whose quest you could not otherwise access, and whose passive fills a gap your current setup does not cover.
