The General Trader is a merchant in Permafrost who turns up at Church, Horizon and The Last Stand as the story goes on. In Horizon he stands behind bars in the shop marked with the yellow dollar sign. Walk up and press F to talk to him.
Talk to him and choose the trade option to open the BARGAIN screen. Goods on offer there include Wood, Stone, Flint, Processed Plastic, Treated Hide, Animal Fat, Meat, Surgical Spirit, Moonshine, Vodka, Coffee Beans and Bag of Chips, but his stock changes between visits. Buying costs an item's VALUE, so Meat and Wood go for 5 Bucks and Stone for 8. Selling pays less: Stone and Wood fetch 1 each, a Boar Pelt 9 and a worn Stone Pickaxe 10. A tool you have sold goes back on offer at a higher price than you got for it. The Stone Pickaxe returns at 17, and a Crude Bow sold for 4 returns at 40. Ask him for help to pick up the side quest Tonight… We Hunt!, which needs a Deer Pelt. The same conversation also finishes New Connections.
