Three things in Final Fantasy Resonance close off for good, all of them from Chapter 5 onward. Most of what players worry about missing earlier in the story stays available later.
Spoilers ahead: this guide covers places, characters, and objectives encountered from Chapter 5 through the story’s ending.
Quick answer: Finish Archwitch Fina’s substory Last Respite before the last “Go to the top of the tower” stage. Collect all 4 Tablet Shards and the chests in Fina’s Psyche during Chapter 5. Buy any airship shop gear before each new chapter.
| What | What closes it | What you lose | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Archwitch Fina’s substory: Last Respite | Reaching the last “Go to the top of the tower” stage before the final step | The quest, the Moonlight Ring and the “Conscience Renewed” achievement | Accept it from “Go to Gronoa” and finish it before that stage |
| Fina’s Psyche | Leaving the Chapter 5 story battlefield; no World Map or town entrance | 4 Tablet Shards plus the Barrel Blazer and Lunar Whip chests | Grab all 4 shards and open the chests on the Chapter 5 visit |
| Airship shop | The stock changes when the chapter changes | Gear only the airship sells; the stock changes by chapter | Buy what you want before moving on |

Three things that close off for good
Each of these has a fixed point in the story after which you can’t go back for it, so the deadline comes first below.
Last Respite (Archwitch Fina’s substory)
The final step of Last Respite, “Talk to Archwitch Fina on the deck of the airship”, only works from the “Go to the Arcane Library” objective until the final stage of “Go to the top of the tower”. Finish the quest before that final stage. The safest habit is to have it wrapped up before you start the climb at all.
Leaving Last Respite incomplete also blocks the “Conscience Renewed” achievement, which requires you to “Clear all party member substories.” Find the complete list in the achievements guide.
The quest becomes available late in Chapter 5. Once the main objective reads “Go to Gronoa”, find Archwitch Fina in the Grandshelt plaza and accept it.
You know it’s done when the reward lands: Moonlight Ring x1 (“Increases damage dealt by magic attacks by 10%.”) and an Attribute Bonus for Archwitch Fina.

Fina’s Psyche (Chapter 5)
Fina’s Psyche can only be reached from the Chapter 5 story battlefield, while the objectives run from “Find Fina inside her psyche” through “Investigate the gate” to “Go to the battlefield”. There is no World Map or town entrance, so pick everything up during that visit.
| Spot | Tablet Shards | Chests |
|---|---|---|
| Gate | 1 | – |
| Camp | 2 | Barrel Blazer, Mist Hi-Potion x2 |
| Forest path | 1 | Lunar Whip |
Barrel Blazer and Lunar Whip appear in no other chest. Barrel Blazer is a gun with 157 physical attack, 64 magic attack and “Increases stagger power by 10%.” Lunar Whip is a whip with 102 physical attack, 150 magic attack and “Restores 3% of max MP upon defeating an enemy.”

The shards are the bigger concern: at the Oblivion Palace, the Tablet Shard collector awards items according to your shard count. Lightbringer, the highest reward, requires all 99. Missing these four leaves you with a maximum of 95, enough for Arch Drain at 94 but not Lightbringer. Find every other location in the Tablet Shard locations list.
Airship shop stock
Only the airship sells these items, and its stock changes with each chapter. Older stock may not come back once the chapter changes, so buy anything you want before you move the story forward.
- Chapter 5: Lunar Sword, Brigandine, Sage’s Robe
- Chapter 6: Murasame, Bastard Sword
- Chapter 7: Falchion, Scarlet Vest

There isn’t much at stake here. Gear from each following chapter is stronger, and none of these items is required for an achievement.

Black Garb. The light armor in the burning Grandshelt Castle gets a second chance later in the story, so missing it the first time isn’t permanent. The Grandshelt Castle walkthrough covers that first pass.
Colosseum. The Colosseum becomes accessible in Chapter 4 and remains available afterward.
Old Town, Olderion. The Chapter 3 lock is temporary. The game warns “You will not be able to return until the event in Old Town is completed.”, and once that event is over you can go back in.
Chapter 1 side quests. Dream of an Idealist, The Weight of Mercy, Rear Support, Ahoy! and Secrets Unearthed can all be finished later. The ferry from Grandport, and later the airship, take you back to the Kingdom of Grandshelt. Each one is listed under all side quests.

Aileen’s questions. In the Forger of Wills quest, a wrong answer gets “Sorry, but if that’s the answer, I won’t be able to make any weapons for you.” Talk to her again and you can retry.
Chloe’s and Aileen’s follow-ups. From Chapter 5 onward, Chloe’s weapon follow-up after Secrets Unearthed is still available. Aileen’s weapon follow-up on the airship carries on after Chapter 6 starts.

Jump Rope in Olderion. The stages form a continuous chain across Chapter 4, so every reward remains obtainable. See Jump Rope rewards for the complete set.
Carbuncle. The Ruby Cave stele and the three fragments around Olderion have no story cutoff, so this Chapter 3 Esper stays obtainable later. See how to get Carbuncle for the riddle and fragment spots.
Merchant Ship. Each Merchant Ship stays on the World Map until you buy its item.
Visions. The Sanctums of Light don’t close, and choosing different responses to the three questions has no effect on your reward. See Vision questions and answers for the responses.

Espers. No Esper is tied to an event that closes, so every one on the Espers list stays obtainable.
Every other Tablet Shard and chest. Outside Fina’s Psyche, the places they sit in stay reachable, so you can go back for them whenever you like.
