The Heart’s Trail Quest in Phantom Blade Zero: All Steps From Yu’er’s Home to the Mirage Estate

Quick answer: In Pangzhen’s backstreet, enter Yu’er’s home and collect the Heavy Lion Hall Gate Key. Defeat the Lion Dance Grandmaster to obtain the Dormant Flaming Mane; bring it to Lei Dang for repairs, then use the passage in the Green Serpent House.

How The Heart’s Trail starts

The Heart’s Trail is a story quest in Phantom Blade Zero, listed in the quest log with the subtitle “A lonely lamp in a silent town”. It starts as soon as you pass through the tavern passage into the Pangzhen backstreet at the close of Town of Death. You arrive next to the Backstreet Archway bell. Ring it.

The Heavy Lion Hall Gate Key and the other Pangzhen keys are in the full keys list, with the nearest bell for each.

The quest’s first objective, “Visit Yu’er’s home in the backstreets of Pangzhen”, sits at the top of the Story tab in the quest log. The quest moves from the backstreet to central Pangzhen and then back to the backstreet.

The Heart’s Trail objectives in order

Yu’er’s home (and the Flesh Lily)

Yu’er’s home is far into the backstreet, approximately 1 km straight-line from the Backstreet Archway bell. The closest bell you can ring before the visit is Ancestral Shrine Square, about 125 metres from the house. The Pangzhen interactive map shows The Heart’s Trail quest targets, embedded below.

Her father is inside the house. Speak with him there to finish this objective. Afterward, the Yu’er’s House bell, roughly 12 metres from the quest marker, can be used.

The scene changes based on whether you have the real Flesh Lily: the white flower Yu’er gives you when her story ends in Weeping Creek Valley. You can miss the Flesh Lily, so look in your inventory before entering. All players also receive the Crimson Flesh Lily, a red blossom Yu’er dropped in Town of Death after the Blaze battle. It isn’t the real lily.

• With the real Flesh Lily: the Yu’er waiting at home asks where the flower is, and Soul tells her the red one can’t cure her father but that he has a genuine one. Her father then recognizes his daughter. Soul concludes the Flesh Lily can return a person’s mind to their body, and regrets how rare it is.
• Without it: her father asks about his daughter, and you answer with either “She’s no longer with us” or “She’s still alive, but hiding”.

Your choice here does not decide which ending you get. Other quests handle that, as covered in the endings breakdown.

The Tarnished Jade Pendant also comes from this visit. Its card reads:

A dim jade pendant that fell from the body of Yu’er’s father.

It once carried his longing for his late wife, and his hopes for the future. With his passing, the pendant too has lost its luster, as though mourning a life of quiet hardship and sorrow.

Heavy Lion Hall Gate Key

The key’s card reads:

A silver key shaped like a lion dance ball. It opens the main gate to the Lion Dance Hall.

When sunlight passes through its openwork, it casts the silhouette of a lion with a ball in its jaws. Its weight seems to hold the echo of drums and gongs from days past.

The Lion Dance Grandmaster

With the gate open, the objective reads “Venture deeper into the Lion Dance Hall and seek out the Lion Dance Grandmaster.” The Lion Dance Hall Depths bell sits high above the hall floor, about 34 metres above the Lion Dance Hall bell. The boss’s fog gate is about 26 metres from the Depths bell, so rest there before going in.

A masked lion dancer waits at the battle’s starting point. Approach him to play the cutscene and begin the fight with Flame, the Mask-Bound Lion Dance Grandmaster. The second health bar bears the title “The Lion Dance Grandmaster’s Final Dance”. The full boss order lists him among the game’s other fights.

Beating him unlocks the “The Lion’s Spirit Lives On” achievement and gives you the Dormant Flaming Mane. After the cutscene, Soul is standing next to The Sealed Lion bell. Ring it. The card reads:

A lion-headed flamethrower, now cold and silent after its fuel ran dry. For the time being, it can not be used.

If refueled, it may be able to burn through bramble barriers on the path.

Soul remarks that the lion head’s flame has died out and that, relit, it could burn away the brambles at the town’s south gate. If you’ve already met Lei Dang, Soul adds that he understands fire weapons and might get it working again.

The final Lion Dance Grandmaster Memory Flower is in the boss arena once the fight is over.

Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall

After you win the fight and watch the memory scene, your task becomes “Visit Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall”. Jingyang Hall is located in central Pangzhen, rather than the backstreet.

Lei Dang tells you that entering the Mirage Estate is now your problem. The objective changes to “Find the way into the Mirage Estate”.

The Green Serpent House passage

The way into the Mirage Estate is a hidden passage in the Green Serpent House, back in the Pangzhen backstreet. Its quest marker is about 30 metres from the Green Serpent House bell, and the objective becomes “Enter the Mirage Estate through the hidden passage in the Green Serpent House”.

A serpent statue conceals the passage and requires three components: the Serpent Eye, Serpent Tongue and Serpent Fang. The Order keeps them in its Red, Black and White Serpent Houses as part of the story quest The Four Serpent Houses. Insert all three and the passage opens. That completes The Heart’s Trail, and the story continues into the Mirage Estate.
