Enshrouded 1.0: How to Get the Mill

Finish the Alchemist's "Obtaining A Mill" quest in Riverreach, then craft and power the Mill back at your base.

Finish the Alchemist’s “Obtaining A Mill” quest in Riverreach, then craft and power the Mill back at your base.

The Mill grinds materials into fine powders, and getting one means finishing the Alchemist’s quest “Obtaining A Mill” to claim an Improved Millstone, then crafting the Mill at the Alchemist and placing it near a force generator. Its item text reads, “A mill that can be used to grind materials to a fine powder.”

Get the Improved Millstone in Riverreach

The first Improved Millstone comes from the Alchemist. Accept the quest “Obtaining A Mill” and head to Riverreach, a town in the Veilwater Basin. The millstone’s item text reads, “This stone serves as the centerpiece of a mill.”

Take the quest from the Alchemist. The opening stage, Discover An Easier Way To Grind Materials, reads: “The Alchemist wants you to discover a more efficient way to grind materials. Perhaps you can discover a machine that functions without such manual labor! Take a look around when you enter the Veilwater Basin. The Flame calls you towards a certain town that holds the answers you seek.”
Travel to Riverreach and reach the mill inside. The stage Look For Clues In Riverreach reads: “You’ve found a town called Riverreach. This place uses water to power a large lumber refinement complex and a mill. Reach the mill and observe how it operates to proceed!”

Close the floodgates to stop the water. The stage Close The Floodgates In Riverreach reads: “The water-powered wheels are connected to a grinding apparatus inside a building, but you can’t take the millstone while the machine is working. Perhaps you could harness the power of water and turn the apparatus off. Stop the water flow in Riverreach near the water wheels outside to turn the machine off.” All water flow needs to stop to keep the machine off.
Go back inside while the water is still off and take the millstone. The stage Retrieve The Millstone While The Waterflow Is Turned Off reads: “You’ve successfully turned off the water flow in Riverreach. This enables you to retrieve the millstone. Head inside to take the grind mill component. Remember that all water flow needs to be stopped to keep the machine turned off.”

Craft and place the Mill at the Alchemist

With the Improved Millstone in hand, the final quest stage, Craft And Place A Mill, reads: “You’ve retrieved the improved millstone. With it, you can craft a mill. The mill will only function when there’s a force generator nearby. A force generator can be a water wheel, which is placed in a water stream, or windmill sails. Both can be crafted at the Alchemist.”

Open the Alchemist and craft the Mill in a sheltered spot. The Mill takes 30 Wood Planks, 20 Shell Limestone, 10 Lump of Clay, 10 Iron Bars and 1 Improved Millstone.

Power the Mill with a force generator

To power the Mill, craft either a water wheel or windmill sails at the Alchemist and set the chosen device next to it. A water wheel needs to be placed in a stream.

  • Small Water Wheel takes 4 Wood Planks, 7 Tropical Wood and 2 Iron Bars.
  • Make a Large Water Wheel with 6 Iron Bars, 20 Tropical Wood and 10 Wood Planks.
  • For Small Windmill Sails, use 8 Fabric, 2 Iron Bars, 16 Tropical Wood and 8 Wood Planks.

After your first Mill, the Alchemist can craft more Improved Millstones. Each additional Improved Millstone takes 30 Shell Limestone and 15 Flintstone, made at the Alchemy Station in a sheltered spot.
