Onion Knight’s Vision comes from his Sanctum of Light in Dirnado: the three questions it asks, his Commando kit, skills by Awakening Level, Mastery Rank bonuses and where he ranks.

Onion Knight, Eternal Wind Conservator, in Final Fantasy Resonance

Quick answer: You get Onion Knight from his Sanctum of Light in Dirnado, the Continent of Wind, the region the story first takes you to in Chapter 2. Answer the sanctum’s three questions (any answers work) and you receive the Vision “Eternal Wind Conservator Onion Knight”, a Commando with Fire, Aero and Stone from the start and Dual Jobs, Flare and Job Change at 3 stars.

Where to get Onion Knight

Onion Knight is one of 16 series heroes whose Vision sits in a Sanctum of Light, out of all 26 Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance. His is the Sanctum of Onion Knight in Dirnado, the Continent of Wind. Dirnado has three sanctums in total, and the other two hold Zidane and Noctis.

Onion Knight at a glance.

Sanctum markers first appear on the World Map in Chapter 1; new regions’ sanctums become available as the story progresses. During the airship tutorial, the game instructs you to “Soar across the skies in search of more Sanctums of Light”. The full map of every Sanctum of Light lists each region’s sanctums.

Play into Chapter 2, “Eternal Blue”, which is the part of the story that takes you to Dirnado. The chapter list shows where that falls in the campaign.
Open the World Map and head for the Sanctum of Light icon in Dirnado. Depending on where the sanctum sits in the region, you may reach it some time after your first arrival rather than right away.
Enter the sanctum and answer its three questions about Onion Knight’s story. There is no wrong answer here: any reply to any question earns the Vision.
Collect the Vision “Eternal Wind Conservator Onion Knight”. Back on the World Map, the sanctum’s marker now shows a check mark, which confirms the Vision is yours.

Onion Knight’s Sanctum of Light questions

Each answer gets its own reply, but none of them changes the reward. The same rule applies to every sanctum’s questions.

Question 1

“Were you to embark on a lengthy journey, trading your small village for the wider world, what would you do?”

AnswerReply
See as much of the world as possible.“A fine choice, as travel should allow you to broaden your horizons—in both the literal and figurative sense.”
Learn various combat strategies.“Those in whom the crystals place their hope are also blessed with titles that bestow powers.”
Ride on an airship.“Heavy is the burden you carry as a hero. Taking to the air, however, is a fine time to lighten your mental load.”

Question 2

“Were you to confront a foe who was not only powerful, but also had an expert command of magic, how would you fell them?”

AnswerReply
Find what works best against them.“No matter how well one may wield a blade or sling a spell, no one should ever fight their battles alone.”
Go back to the basics.“Though the fruits of a long, arduous journey may be both plentiful and sweet, they did not grow from nothing.”
Earn the respect of summoned entities.“Creatures of monstrous puissance, such as Bahamut, await those imbued with the light of the crystals.”

Question 3

“Were a mysterious foe to appear before you—as if from thin air—and put you to rout, what would you do?”

AnswerReply
Remember those who believe in you.“A valid choice, as the faith that others place in you can often serve as a source of strength.”
Seek aid from those on the side of darkness.“Though the two elements may appear to be in opposition, the Warriors of the Dark fought for the same cause as the Warriors of the Light.”
Persevere in the face of adversity.“The rise of a fallen soldier is a powerful sight, as it can inspire even the most weary of recruits.”

Onion Knight’s role and kit

Onion Knight is a Commando Vision and a magic attacker (see roles explained). Any character can equip any Vision, so he isn’t locked to one party member. In battle his abilities sit under the command “Onion Knight’s Skills”, described as “Use a skill specific to Onion Knight.”

His kit is built on three elements of black magic that he has from 0 stars. That lets one Vision cover Fire, Wind and Earth weaknesses.

  • Fire: “[Black Magic] Deal Fire magic damage.”, 5 MP
  • Aero: “[Black Magic] Deal Wind magic damage.”, 5 MP
  • Stone: “[Black Magic] Deal Earth magic damage.”, 5 MP

At 1 star, his spells upgrade to -ra, costing 15 MP and hitting twice. At 2 stars, they become -ga spells, using 44 MP for 3 hits. He also learns Blade Torrent at 2 stars; it costs 41 MP, hits 3 times, and reads “Deal Wind magic damage to an enemy.”

Three more pieces arrive at 3 stars:

  • Dual Jobs (41 MP): “Grant use of both Blade Torrent and selected Onion Knight skill in a single turn.”
  • Flare (63 MP): “[Black Magic] Deal non-elemental magic damage to an enemy.”
  • Job Change (passive): “When attacking with Onion Knight’s skills, applies the higher attribute of either physical or magic attack.”

It’s easy to overlook Job Change’s value: Onion Knight’s skills draw on whichever attack stat is higher, so physical attackers can use them too.

Throw is “Throw an item at a target.” LB Triple Charge “Triples the LB gauge fill rate.” Spirit of Onion Knight costs 100 AP and “Activates all of Onion Knight’s Mastery Rank abilities.”

The MRP column is a running total for the Vision, not the price of each rank. The full system is covered under Vision Mastery Rank.

Is Onion Knight worth using?

On the allthings.how Vision tier list, Onion Knight sits in C tier, the lowest of four (S, A, B, C). That list ranks Visions by role, kit and values, weighted for playing through the story.

Three things hold him back. His 0-star Magic Attack +20% trails the Magic Attack +30% that fellow Commandos Terra and Shantotto start with. Dual Jobs and Job Change wait until 3 stars. And LB Triple Charge needs MR 9, which takes 4,945 total MRP.

He can still suit certain parties. One Vision lets him cover Fire, Wind and Earth weaknesses as a Commando, while Job Change allows physical attackers to use his skills. For picks suited to a particular party member, consult the best Visions for each character.
