Boss fights in Embervale reward you with Shroud Cores, the item you need to upgrade the Flame Altar. Each upgrade widens the altar's protection range, so taking down bosses lets your base cover more ground. The map has 27 boss spots.
Revelwood holds 6 of them, with Springlands and Nomad Highlands at 5 each. Albaneve Summits and Cinder's Cradle have 4 each, Veilwater Basin has 2 and Kindlewastes has 1. Some bosses turn up more than once: the Ancient S.P.D.R. Construct at 4 spots, and the Vukah Brawler and Scavenger Tyrant at 3 each. Others, such as the Direwolf, the Shroud Stalker and Vorgoth, Champion of the Shroud, stand alone on the map.
