The Iron Boulder is a boulder you break with a pickaxe to get Iron. The Flint Pickaxe will not touch it, since that tool only handles Sulfur, Copper, Coal, Flint and Stone, so you need a better pickaxe before you set out. When you aim at a boulder, the prompt shows its name next to a pickaxe icon. If that icon is red and crossed, the tool in your hand cannot break it.
Sonnenberg's Clinic is the place to head for, with 56 Iron Boulder spots nearby. Rat Queen's Crossing follows with 15 and Shallow Rift with 10. Another 103 spots lie out in the open, away from any named place, so it pays to keep an eye out between landmarks. Take the Iron back to a Stone Furnace and smelt it with Coal into Iron Ingots.
