A Tree is felled for Wood, and bringing one down takes an axe; the Stone Axe does it in about 15 light hits. The prompt carries an axe icon, which turns red while you hold no tool able to break it. A felled Tree comes down as a log in several pieces, each labelled Trunk. Press F on each piece to pick it up and collect Wood; striking the fallen pieces has no effect. Felling also trains your Axes skill.
