Ladders 101: Message from the boss is a recording lying in the Crater, a scavenging area. The nearest fast travel post is Fast Travel: Horizon, about 280 m away in a straight line. The recording belongs to Ladders 101, a side quest in which you find out what happened with the hunting towers.
The message comes from the listener's boss, who cheerfully explains that they have been left stranded on purpose. The boss has taken the ladder away, warns of wolves nearby and an approaching snowstorm, and mentions leaving behind a weapon with just a single round. The boss also reveals a long-held suspicion that the listener and another man had been working against them both, and calls it fitting that the listener was made to turn on him. The recording starts playing by itself the moment you pick it up. Recordings you pick up stay in your journal, where the MEMOS page lets you play, pause and stop them.
