Recording – The Awakening is a recording lying in the Military Area, a scavenging area. The nearest fast travel post is Fast Travel: Horizon, about 220 m away in a straight line.

On the recording, a voice speaks to a group of children as they are being woken. It assures them they are out of danger and tells them that the world before has been buried under snow. Their parents, it says, were led astray by a deceptive light, while the children are now released from the empty illusions of men. The speaker promises to teach them a truth that will protect them against the freezing weather. It ends by urging them to survive the frozen land and to defend the place they are in. The recording starts playing by itself as soon as you pick it up. Recordings you pick up are kept in the journal, and its MEMOS page lets you play, pause or stop them later.
