Hunt a Deer

In-game journal

Tonight… We Hunt! is a side quest in the Horizon quest line, given by the General Trader in Horizon, the safe zone. The journal sets a single goal: hunt a deer. The steps come in a fixed order. First you bring down a deer, then you skin the carcass and take the meat, and finally you carry the Deer Pelt back to the trader in Horizon to finish the job.

The animal you need is the Red Deer, and you do not have to go far to find one, because Red Deer graze right outside Horizon's gate. The tool that matters is a knife. Have a knife in hand when you skin the carcass and you get the Deer Pelt. If you try it with any other tool, the game refuses it as the wrong tool for the job. Equip your knife before you head out through the gate so you can skin the deer as soon as it falls and take the pelt straight back to the trader.
