Monochrome Mood Dress To Impress: 3 One-Colour Outfit Ideas (Black, White and Red)

Three one-colour looks built from free pieces and free materials, with exact palette positions, materials per part and poses.

Three one-colour looks built from free pieces and free materials, with exact palette positions, materials per part and poses.

Monochrome Mood in Dress To Impress asks for one colour across the whole outfit, worn in lighter and darker shades of that colour. Black and white are not the only options. Any single colour family works: below we build all black, all white and all red. The risk with a one-colour outfit is that it looks flat. You avoid that by giving each part of each piece a different free material, so the colour stays the same while the texture and shine change.

Quick answer: Pick one colour and use it, with its lighter and darker shades, on every piece. Give each part a different free material (Silk skirt, Glitter print, Metallic flowers, Leather or Neon hem) so it does not look flat.

Where the Monochrome Mood pieces are

Dress To Impress doesn’t name its clothes. Every piece is a 3D model on a shelf or mannequin, so you find each one by its location. All three looks use the same few pieces.

  • Gown: a long, pale-pink gown with tiered ruffles, displayed on the mannequin next to the shoe and boot shelf.
  • Black jacket: top-left of the jacket shelf on the left wall, near the Dressing Room landing.
  • Cream cardigan: middle shelf of the same jacket wall, directly under the black jacket.
  • Knee boots: the fringed knee boots on the small round white table by the tops shelf. The floor-length gown hides them in all three looks.

The gown has five parts, labelled “1/5: Skirt”, “2/5: Leopard Print”, “3/5: Flower Details”, “4/5: Hemline” and “5/5: Belt”. The black jacket opens on “1/4: Preview” and has four parts. The cardigan is a single part, “1/1: Preview”.

The default black top remains visible beneath both the gown and the cropped jackets. It works with the black look, but slightly disrupts the white and red ones.

How to recolour a piece and change its material

Double click a piece on its shelf or mannequin. This opens the colour panel for that piece.
Use the arrows to move through the parts. The current part shows as a label such as “1/5: Skirt”.
Pick a colour for the current part on the Palette tab. The palette positions for each look are in the table below.
Open the fourth tab, marked “+”, to reach the materials, and choose one for the current part. Repeat Steps 2 to 4 for every part.
Press Put On to wear the piece. It then appears in the Wearing panel. Set every part’s colour and material while you are still previewing the piece, before Put On.

The free materials are Default, Matte, Glitter, Rainbow Glitter, Denim, Silk, Light Silk, Metallic, Neon, Foil and Leather. The other materials carry a gold star lock. The panel also displays the line “Some materials only work with higher qualities.” All three looks below were built in Freeplay Mode on an account with no VIP and 0 stars, and nothing was bought.

You can recolour something you are already wearing. Open the Wearing panel and click the piece’s picture to reopen its colour panel. To take a piece off, click the heart X under it.

Default palette positions

Positions refer to the Default palette. Columns run from 1 (red) to 9 (an orange-brown hue). Rows run from 1 at the top to 8 at the bottom. Row 8 is the white-to-black strip.

Why one colour with mixed materials works for Monochrome Mood

Monochrome means one colour for the whole outfit. Keeping to one palette column and stepping a row up or down gives you lighter and darker shades of that colour, and a different material on each part (Silk on the skirt, Glitter on the print, Metallic on the flowers and belt, Leather or Neon on the hem) gives the look texture and shine instead of one flat block. The same free gown makes all three looks, so once you know where its five parts are, switching colours only takes a few minutes in the colour panel.

Monochrome Mood pieces to look for

None of these pieces has a name in the game, so look for them by place and shape. All four are in the Dressing Room in Freeplay Mode, and all four worked on our account with no VIP and 0 stars.

Poses for Monochrome Mood

The Poses button on the right side opens the “Poses” panel with Solo and Duo tabs and a Search Bar. The Solo list starts with Satin, Lilac, Dazzle, Pearly, Crystal, Sparkle and Daisy. We used Lilac (one hand on the hip) for the black look, Pearly (one hand on top of the head) for the white look and Satin (one hand at the face, the other on the hip) for the red look. None of them showed a price or a lock.

Building it in Freeplay Mode first

Freeplay Mode has no timer, so it is the place to build a look, try shades and materials, and check them on the Freeplay Runway before you need them in a round. Once a look works, you know which shelf and which palette spots to go to when Monochrome Mood comes up for real. For more themes built the same way, see our Boho, Robot Takeover, Album Cover and Potion Maker outfit ideas.

What happens in a Dress To Impress theme round

We watched two ordinary server rounds, Plaid Fashion and Birds of Paradise; Monochrome Mood did not come up. The main lobby shows the theme in a banner at the top, for example “Theme: Plaid Fashion”, with a timer underneath (04:33 in one round we saw). The icon at the top centre opens a hint card for the theme.

Once everyone has dressed, each player walks the runway in turn for about seven seconds. While each player walks, the others vote with five stars along the bottom of the screen. A “Voting complete!” banner appears between players. A “Results” card then ranks everyone and shows the rewards each player earned. After that, an “Intermission” countdown of about a minute runs before the next round, with a “Pick Theme” button next to the timer. We did not press it and did not see what it costs. We did not dress for those rounds, so we earned no stars.

What we have not checked

We did not try any other top, so the character’s default black top shows under all three looks; it fits the black look, but it is the one piece that is not in the look’s colour on the white and red ones. We did not change the hair, makeup or skin tone, and we added no accessories: all three looks wear the same long wavy brown hair. Monochrome Mood did not come up in the rounds we watched, so these looks have not been through a real vote and we cannot tell you how many stars they earn.

FAQ

What does Monochrome Mood mean in Dress To Impress?

It means one colour for the whole outfit, in lighter and darker shades of that colour. Our three looks are all black, all white and all red.

Does monochrome mean only black and white?

No. Any single colour works. Our red look uses three shades from the first palette column (rows 5, 6 and 7) with no other colour added.

How do I stop a one-colour outfit looking flat?

Give each part a different free material. On the gown we used Silk for the skirt, Glitter for the print, Metallic for the flowers, and Leather or Neon for the hemline, so the colour stays the same while the shine changes.

Can I do Monochrome Mood without VIP?

Yes. All three looks were built on an account with no VIP and 0 stars, and every piece, colour, material and pose used here worked on it. Nothing was bought.

Can I change the colour of something I am already wearing?

Yes. Open the “Wearing” panel and click the piece’s picture; its colour panel opens again. We recoloured the worn gown this way for the white and red looks.
